Founded in 1986 and incorporated in 1995 as DOVA, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, Doug Varone and Dancers was established to explore and advance Varone’s choreographic vision of capturing the nuances of human interaction through movement.  The creation, performance and touring of new dance works are the primary activities of the Company; our education and outreach activities reach professional and pre-professional dancers and seek to improve dance literacy in the general public.

Doug Varone’s choreography is recognized both for its sheer physicality and for its profound emotional insight. Core to the Company’s mission is sharing its work with a diverse public through performance and outreach.  Since 1986, Doug Varone and Dancers has toured to more than 100 cities throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia, and received major commissions from the American Dance Festival, the Bard SummerScape Festival, Wolf Trap, Jacob’s Pillow and many others.  Varone has directed and choreographed for opera and theatre, including new productions at the Metropolitan Opera, McCarter Theatre Center, Opera Colorado and more.  The outstanding quality of our outreach residencies has made the Company among the most sought-after ambassadors in the dance field, offering residency activities while on tour in addition to intensive workshops for professional and pre-professional dancers.
