“Making a difference, one survivor at a time.” Mission: Drivers For Survivors provides free transportation service and supportive companionship for ambulatory cancer patients, from suspicious findings through completion of treatments. This service is provided for ambulatory cancer patients living in the following designated areas of South, Central, and East Alameda: Fremont, Newark, Union City, Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Ashland, Cherryland, Castro Valley, Dublin, Livermore and Pleasanton going to all cancer-related medical appointments within a 60-mile radius of ZIP code 94538, freeing them to focus on their health and essential treatment. Drivers For Survivors program is partially funded by the Alameda County Transportation Commission, through Measure B and Measure BB tax dollars; Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5310 ; Eden Health District in year 2019 and charitable individuals, organizations, and businesses within the communities we serve and beyond. Because we have successfully increased our pool of companion drivers, we can now provide service to individuals while they undergo diagnosis for a possible cancerous finding. Even the suspicion of cancer qualifies you for services from Drivers for Survivors. DFS is now able to step in earlier to assist those in need at a vulnerable and traumatic time of their lives! As of August 2019, we have provided service to over 500+ patients and given over 18,000 + rides since we have begun operation 7 years ago.
