The Earth Policy Institute (EPI) is a small research organization based in Washington, D.C., founded in 2001 by Lester Brown to chart a sustainable global future. It operates at the global level because no country can implement a Plan B economy in isolation, and its aim is to map and demonstrate how such a transition could unfold. The institute's work centers on providing a global plan for sustainability and offering concrete examples, while engaging policymakers, the media, academics, environmentalists, and other decision-makers to keep focus on building a Plan B economy. It sits within the research services field, emphasizing policy-relevant analysis and informed public discourse around sustainable development. In January 2020, Earth Policy formed a partnership with Offshore Wind Ltd to support the Ecosystem and Passive Acoustic Monitoring (ECO-PAM) project, a collaboration involving Ørsted U.S. Offshore Wind and academic institutions.
