East Kentucky Power Cooperative is a not-for-profit electric utility based in Winchester, Kentucky. It serves more than a million residents and thousands of businesses across 87 counties through a network of 16 local electric cooperatives. The cooperative generates electricity using coal and natural gas, operates a 60-acre solar facility, and runs plants that use methane sourced from landfills. It owns and maintains about 2,800 miles of high-voltage transmission lines and works with its member cooperatives to offer energy efficiency and demand-side management programs that help customers manage their bills. EKPC also aims to support Kentucky's local economies by facilitating job creation and investment. Recent developments include the construction of a natural gas power plant in Casey County to strengthen grid reliability and expansions such as securing a site for a new substation in West Virginia.
