East Maine School District 63 is a mid-sized public education district in Des Plaines, Illinois, overseeing six elementary schools for PreK through 6 and a junior high for grades 7–8. The district serves more than 3,600 students across Des Plaines and neighboring communities, including Niles, Morton Grove, Glenview, and Park Ridge, through its elementary schools, First Steps Preschool, and an Expanded Learning Program. It emphasizes teaching excellence tailored to each student’s needs, a focus on the whole child, and a multicultural perspective that values diversity and strengthens community links. As part of Maine Township, the district seeks to build partnerships with families and the broader community to support students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development. In May 2026, the district appointed Jacob Plecker as director of communications and community relations, to lead the district’s communications efforts while longtime director Janet Spector Bishop retires that summer.
