Welcome to East St. Louis School District 189, a district with a rich history of famous and accomplished  students. We are immensely proud of the accomplishments of alumni such as musician Miles Davis, athletes Jackie Joyner Kersee and Kellen Winslow, Emmy award-winning media executive Charlotte VM Ottley, and surgeon Kanesha Lafaye Bryant. These are just a few of our many distinguished alumni; we look forward to continued success from our graduates in the future. We are justifiably proud of this rich history of academic, artistic, and athletic accomplishments. To continue this legacy of  greatness, we are looking at the examples of success in our schools and replicating them throughout the District. We are also researching and implementing best practices that have proven to increase student achievement and financial stability. District goals include increasing student achievement, establishing financial stability, and restoring public confidence and trust. These are not easy goals to achieve especially in this time of financial crisis that requires sacrifice from all stakeholders. Financial challenges do not, however, change our high expectations for students and staff, our commitment to excellence, or our expectations for continuous academic improvement.
