East-West Seed is a privately owned vegetable seed company founded in 1982 by Dutch seedsman Simon Groot, the 2019 World Food Prize Laureate. It is headquartered in Nonthaburi, in the Bangkok metropolitan region, Thailand, and has established a strong presence in Asia while expanding into Africa and Latin America. The firm develops tropical vegetable varieties suited to warm growing conditions and provides training and related services intended to help farmers raise yields and improve livelihoods. It exports to more than 75 tropical markets and serves nearly 23 million farmers worldwide, supported by 20 research and development establishments across nine countries. The company has been recognized for its impact, ranking No. 1 on the Access to Seeds Index for Global Seed Companies and for South and Southeast Asia in 2019, and appearing on Fortune’s Change the World list in 2020. In 2025, East-West Seed Group launched 67 new seed varieties across markets to address climate variability, pest and disease pressure, post-harvest losses, and shifting market demands.
