Originally founded exclusively as a distributor of steel and other metals, Eastern Metal Trading Co., Inc. opened for business in 1991. Eastern Metals has always maintained three areas of business: 

1) Prime Importing of First Quality metals for the distribution market.
2) The purchase and sale of Surplus and Salvage metals in the "Spot Market"
3) Contractual buying and selling of Domestic Metals & Metals for Export.

Out of the experience gained in buying and selling "Opportunity Materials" in the metals industry, Eastern found that markets in other commodities had similar distribution chains. Materials have different levels of buyers based on price and quality. Markets and applications thrive for each one of the levels. 

By the Mid 1990's, business contacts led us to take an opportunity in the Plywood business, buying a large lot of plywood in a distressed situation. We recognized the opportunity like we had in the metals business, time and time again. The success of a few early transactions, and with the Internet all the rage, SurplusPlywood.Com was born.
