Education Cannot Wait (ECW) is a global fund dedicated to supporting education in emergencies and protracted crises. By coordinating with governments, UN agencies, donors, civil society, and other humanitarian actors, ECW aims to accelerate responses to crisis-affected learners and bridge immediate relief with longer-term, multi-year programming. The organization focuses on ensuring quality education for refugee, internally displaced, and other crisis-affected girls and boys, with an emphasis on reaching those who are at risk of being left behind.
Based in New York City, ECW operates within the non-profit sector and engages with a broad network of partners through the multilateral system, running on a governance structure separate from UNICEF’s administrative functions. The group has pursued notable activities in response to crises, including launching urgent learning-protection initiatives and attending high-profile global events to advance its education-in-emergencies agenda.
