From our humble beginnings serving the residents of Chicago’s historic Pilsen neighborhood, the mission of El Popocatepetl Tortillas has always been to honor the ancient tradition of making masa, with only the finest ingredients. Family owned and operated for more than 40 years, we take pride in serving some of the best restaurants and storefronts throughout Chicago, the greater midwest region, and beyond.

Our restaurant clientele in Chicago is perhaps our highest honor, and the greatest example of our dedication to quality and the ancient tradition of making masa. It is very likely that your favorite neighborhood joint is being serviced by El ‘Popo’. An abridged list includes (but is certainly not limited to): El Mezquite, Los Comales, Carnitas Uruapan, Carnitas Don Pedro, Los Taconazos, Lazo’s Tacos, Dos Urban, 5 Rabanitos, La Vaca, Estrella Negra, Big Star, Mercadito, Quiote, Antique Taco, and of course the restaurants of Chef Rick Bayless. 

Aside from restaurants, El ‘Popo’ has acquired a pretty eclectic list of clientele, which includes all of the major mexican supermarkets in Chicago, such as the Guanajuato's, Los Gueros, The Fresh Markets, Cermak Produce, Pete’s Market, and Casa del Pueblo. All of our products are made fresh and made-to-order; high volume sales with wholesale distributors has our products in about 30 states, and even a good portion of Canada. El ‘Popo’ offers food-service packaging and sizes, working with gourmet food services such as Home Chef, Blue Plate and Chefs Warehouse. We even use red, blue, and other heirloom corns from Mexico in private label production. El ‘Popo’ has 120 employees, currently offers around 30 different products, and manufactures over 2 million tortillas a day.
