El Valor is a Chicago-based nonprofit founded in 1973 by Guadalupe A. Reyes to create a community where families, including those with children with disabilities, can learn, live, and work. It provides direct services to thousands of families in Chicago and surrounding communities and conducts a national public awareness campaign on early childhood learning that reaches millions. It focuses on strengthening communities by supporting people with disabilities, promoting early childhood development, enriching youth, strengthening families, and developing leadership. The organization serves about 3,000 families with young children in research-based early childhood programs, supports more than 1,000 individuals with disabilities through rehabilitation programs, and runs a leadership initiative that has helped around 600 Latino leaders earn master's or doctoral degrees in partnership with area universities. In recent years, El Valor has pursued partnerships to extend its impact, including a collaboration with Solstice noted in 2021.
