Empowerment WORKS (EW) is a social change organization based in Oakland, California, that operates within the civic and social sector. Founded on Indigenous-inspired principles in 2001, EW promotes global collaboration to support local solutions aimed at creating a thriving world with healthy ecosystems, cultural diversity, and inclusive economies. The organization emphasizes leadership from communities most affected by critical issues and works to provide access to markets, appropriate technologies, and education in economically challenged yet culturally rich communities, enabling citizen participation and local empowerment. EW maintains a network called Partners in Empowerment (PIE) and employs an ecologically inspired framework known as 7 Stages to Sustainability (7SS) to coordinate cross-sector action, supported by programs such as The Global Summit, Pulse of the Movement webcasts, and Artists in Action events. The overall objective is to mobilize knowledge, talents, and collective potential to foster sustainable social change on a global scale.
