Developing new nanomaterials-based energy storage technology called "Adsorption-Enhanced Compressed Air Energy Storage" (AE-CAES), which uses nano-porous materials to adsorb air. As a result, (1) the cost of the air storage tank and other hardware is greatly reduced, (2) the system becomes intrinsically safe as well as environmentally benign, and (3) it also stores substantial amounts of cold in parallel with mechanical energy. This promises to accelerate the world's transition to a more sustainable energy future.
