Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) serves as the Department of Energy's Office of Science high-performance data network, designed to provide reliable transport for large-scale scientific workflows. It functions as the backbone for the DOE science mission, overseen by the Advanced Scientific Computing Research Program and managed by the Scientific Networking Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California. ESnet interconnects the DOE national laboratory system, dozens of DOE sites, and hundreds of research and commercial networks worldwide, enabling tens of thousands of scientists to move vast data streams and access remote resources in real time. A notable recent development is a cross-Atlantic connectivity partnership announced in February 2024 with Aqua Comms.
