ENVELOPE is an idea-driven architecture and activations studio; a hybrid practice intent on realizing an equitable and compelling built environment. Founded in 2002, the firm is recognized for its pioneering work transforming underutilized sites across San Francisco as well as for its environments for hospitality, creative industry and the arts, attuned to the dynamics of contemporary culture.

Reaching across disciplinary boundaries, ENVELOPE engages a wide ranging set of questions spanning architecture, development, product design and curation. Their collaborative and experimental approach has informed projects as varied as forest<>house, an unconventional family retreat; PROXY, an interim use design and development strategy; Hunters Point Shoreline, a half-mile long bayfront park; and the reimagining of Chef Thomas Keller’s kitchen at The French Laundry.

ENVELOPE’s penchant for the unexpected has earned widespread attention. In 2010, Architectural Record named ENVELOPE among the year’s Design Vanguard and the firm’s work has appeared in the United States Pavilion at the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale, The New York Times, T Magazine, Architect, Architectural Record, Interior Design, and Fast Company.
