The Environmental Council of Sacramento (ECOS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a coalition made up of diverse organizations and individuals who come together to create a united voice for environmental concerns. For the benefit of the human and natural environment in the Sacramento region, our coalition engages on issues relating land use, transportation systems, air quality, climate change, urban and rural agriculture and food initiatives, solid waste and recycling, preservation of biodiversity, habitat and open spaces, and water and natural resources, decarbonization of the built environment, social equity and environmental justice, public health, and economic viability. Our mission is to achieve regional sustainability, livable communities, environmental justice, and a healthy environment and economy for existing and future residents. ECOS strives to bring positive change to the Sacramento region by proactively working with the individual and organizational members of ECOS, neighborhood groups, businesses, local and regional agencies and governments. At ECOS, we recognize the deliberate policies that have been historically enacted to disproportionally place environmental burdens on marginalized populations, especially low-income communities of color. As such, we pledge to work to dismantle historic environmental injustices by using our platform to ensure that all people enjoy the same level of protection from environmental and health hazards and feel welcome to our decision-making process.
