Environmental Stewardship is a small nonprofit organization based in Bastrop, Texas, operating in the environmental services sector. As a 501(c)(3) entity, it pursues work across public policy, scientific understanding of ecological processes, and outreach to promote public stewardship of natural resources. The organization focuses on safeguarding resources for current and future needs by conserving and restoring ecological systems. Its activities include participation in groundwater governance processes, such as the Groundwater Management Area 12 review of adopted desired future conditions for the Central Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer, and involvement in Lost Pines Groundwater Conservation District permitting activities and landowners' appeals. Environmental Stewardship is a member of the Colorado and Lavaca Basin and Bay Area Stakeholder Committee Work Group and acts as a water-conservation advocate to state legislators and other elected officials. It has become an affiliate of the Waterkeeper Alliance and plans to help establish a Waterkeeper Watch Network for the lower Colorado River basin and central Gulf Coast bays.
