Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) is an independent, nonprofit energy research and development organization with offices around the world. Based in Palo Alto, California, and founded in 1972, it collaborates with more than 450 companies in 45 countries to advance research across the electricity sector and to support clean, safe, reliable, and affordable power. The organization partners with utilities, regulators, system operators, and technology providers to address energy challenges on a global scale. Its research spans the Nuclear, Generation, and Electricity Delivery and Customer Solutions areas, addressing decarbonization, grid modernization, and low-carbon resources. EPRI operates as a collaborative actor within the broader energy ecosystem, engaging a diverse set of stakeholders to improve electricity systems. In March 2026, EPRI announced Flex MOSAIC, a uniform framework for classifying the flexibility of large electric loads, developed through its DCFlex initiative with more than 65 collaborators and unveiled at CERAWeek in Houston.
