Equality Virginia is a statewide nonprofit based in Richmond, Virginia, focused on policy advocacy, outreach, and education to advance equality for LGBT Virginians. It began in 1989 as Virginians for Justice and operates as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The organization supports its advocacy through research, education, and legal analysis on issues affecting LGBT Virginians. Its work targets LGBT Virginians as well as the policymakers and communities that shape state and local policy, with the aim of creating a Virginia that is safe, welcoming, and equal for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals and their families. It positions itself as non-partisan and emphasizes evidence-based resources to inform policy and public discussion. In August 2023 Equality Virginia launched a school board policy tracker.
