In 1946, Ernie Swanson opened a small grocery store in his Saunders County hometown. He was an extraordinary businessman and entrepreneur and one of the first to catch on to the excitement of a new entertainment product - television.

 At first he sold them out of the trunk of his car parked in front of his store. Before long, TV's and then appliances replaced the produce and groceries. He then added sofas and recliners, carpet and pool tables, and Ernie's in Ceresco - as we know it today - was underway. Despite its success as a massive Nebraska retailer, Ernie's has not forgotten its humble roots. It is still family owned, still puts the customers first, still offers free popcorn and Pepsi at its snack bar and still calls Ceresco home.
