Le concept d’Espaces Atypiques a été créé par Julien Haussy, un passionné d’architecture contemporaine et de design. La première agence est ainsi née à Paris en 2008. Le succès étant au rendez-vous, deux autres agences ont vu le jour à Marseille et à Lyon. Une quatrième agence a ouvert ses portes à Bordeaux au printemps 2014 et une cinquième dans les Yvelines depuis le mois de novembre 2014.
