Ethiopia Reads is a mid-sized nonprofit organization focused on cultivating a culture of reading in Ethiopia. Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, it collaborates with communities to plant libraries, train educators, and boost literacy by providing books and trained librarians who engage students. Founded in 1998 as a tax-exempt organization, it seeks to empower youth and families through reading. By 2021, the organization had established more than 80 libraries across Ethiopia and operates a peer-mentoring program for librarians and educators. It hosts the National Children’s Reading Summit annually since 2019 and commissioned the first bibliography of Ethiopian children’s books published in 2024. It serves over 250,000 children each year and holds Guidestar's Platinum rating for nonprofit transparency; in 2026 it planned to attend the 43rd Soccer Tournament & Cultural Festival organized by the Ethiopian Sports Federation in North America.
