The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) operates as an independent intergovernmental organization that functions as both a research institute and a 24/7 operational center for weather forecasting. It produces numerical forecasts for its Member States and makes these data available to their national meteorological services, while also offering a catalog of forecast data for businesses and other commercial customers worldwide. Based in Reading, England, ECMWF was founded in 1975 and draws on a multinational staff and collaborative network spanning many countries.
