The European Defence Agency coordinates defence collaboration among the EU's 27 member states, created in 2004 to support cross-border capability development. It provides a framework for harmonising requirements, delivering operational capabilities, and advancing research and innovation, including technology demonstrators and procurement, as well as training and exercises to back CSDP operations. The agency engages closely with the European defence industry to strengthen Europe's defence technological and industrial base and competitiveness, and is led by Chief Executive André Denk under the authority of Kaja Kallas. Its customers are the EU's 27 member states that rely on the agency to coordinate and accelerate the development of shared defence capabilities and to support EU security policy and operations. It is based in Ixelles, in the Brussels region of Belgium, and maintains continuous engagement with the European defence industry to align industry capabilities with EU defence needs.
