Every Woman is a global coalition of more than 4,000 women's rights organizations and activists in 169 nations advancing a treaty to end violence against women and girls in the form of a new Optional Protocol to CEDAW.

A new Optional Protocol to CEDAW will codify norms and standards into binding obligations, leading to stronger laws and policies at the State level in countries around the world.

In December 2023, our work led to the release of a joint statement on the need for a new Optional Protocol by four nations—the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Costa Rica, Sierra Leone, and Antigua and Barbuda—and a joint statement by the current and former Special Rapporteurs on violence against women and girls calling for a new Optional Protocol to CEDAW dedicated to ending violence against women and girls. To date, 16 nations showing regional diversity have expressed interest in exploring the possibility of a new binding mechanism.
