Families in Global Transition originated from a discussion around Ruth van Reken’s kitchen table in 1998.

Since then, the conferences have grown as has the reach. Yet the warmth, the welcome, the empathy and knowledge sharing that we associate with all our expatriate kitchen tables is the hallmark of Families in Global Transition.

It started out as a commitment to hold a series of one-day workshops to bring families affected by transitions and the chaos they created to experts who could help them.

Our current conferences are three day events bringing people from across cultures and sectors: corporate, small business entrepreneurs, international schools, relocation, diplomacy, not for profit, academia, media and the arts. The three day event is designed with a variety of presentations, workshops, interactive discussions and keynote sessions. Interspersed with the activity are opportunities to meet, connect and inspire.

Our Mission

Families in Global Transition is a welcoming forum for globally mobile individuals, families, and those working with them. We promote cross-sector connections for sharing research and developing best practices that support the growth, success and well-being of people crossing cultures around the world.
