Family Matters Chicago is a small to mid-sized nonprofit focused on youth development and community leadership, based in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago. The organization structures its work into three initiatives—Youth Development, The Family Matters School, and Community Engagement—to address youth growth, schooling, and community collaboration. Its Youth Development programming includes Partners in Learning, a one-to-one tutor and mentoring component, Project RISE for teen job training, and youth leadership activities that emphasize hands-on learning, peer leadership, and opportunities for community involvement. Established in 2019, The Family Matters School operates as a cooperative K-3 microschool with an inclusive curriculum that accommodates diverse learning styles. The Community Engagement initiative extends participation beyond daily programming to include activities such as a Community Knitting Circle and leadership training anchored in the Principles of Leadership, a framework intended to support positive thinking, responsible decision-making, and peaceful conflict resolution in pursuit of equity.
