The Family Online Safety Institute is an international non-profit organization focused on making the online world safer for children and families within the technology, information and internet sector. It is based in Washington, D.C., at 400 7th Street Northwest, Suite 306, and has between 11 and 50 employees. FOSI convenes leaders from industry, government and the non-profit sector to collaborate on online safety solutions and policies, guided by input from a thirty-strong industry membership. The organization runs initiatives such as Platform for Good and the Global Resource and Information Directory (GRID), hosts an annual conference in Washington, DC and an annual European forum, and facilitates regional discussions on policy and legislative developments. FOSI engages in partnerships with major technology companies to translate research into practical tools for families; recent collaborations include Roblox and BitDefender, and past partnerships have included Google.
