Based in Montreal, Quebec, Fantasia International Film Festival is a mid-sized organization in the movies and sound recording industry. Founded in 1996, it has become North America's largest and most influential festival dedicated to genre cinema. Its programming emphasizes imaginative cinema from Asia, Europe, and the Americas, including both intimate personal visions and international titles rarely seen in North America. Historically, the festival has presented substantial lineups, such as in 2011 when more than 120 feature films and hundreds of shorts were showcased. Its audience includes genre-film enthusiasts, filmmakers, distributors, and festival program programmers seeking access to distinctive international cinema. In recent development, Fantasia has expanded its industry reach through partnerships with markets like the European Film Market, organizing a Work-in-Progress and In-Production showcase at EFM 2026.
