The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) is an independent U.S. government agency in the Government Administration sector, located at 400 7th Street Southwest, Washington, District of Columbia 20219, United States. It oversees approximately $6.2 trillion in the housing finance marketplace and regulates Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Bank System to support stable funding for homeownership. Since September 2008, FHFA has acted as conservator of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and as a member of the Financial Stability Oversight Council it collaborates with other regulators to establish market rules that protect and balance the interests of banks, investors, and homeowners.
