The Fetzer Institute is a nonprofit organization based in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It focuses on building the spiritual foundations that support compassionate action in the world, viewing inner life as integral to outer service. Founded by John E. Fetzer, a broadcast pioneer, the institute emerged from the belief that addressing global issues requires attention to psychological and spiritual roots alongside political and economic strategies. The organization has engaged in collaborative initiatives, including a 2018 partnership with Commonweal to launch the Retreat Center Collaboration, which aims to develop innovative programs at urban and rural retreat centers and promote equitable access. In 2021 it helped launch The Reunited States documentary, coordinating with civic health and other partners to broaden public dialogue on democracy.
