The FIA – Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile serves as the global governing body for motor sport and the umbrella federation for mobility organisations worldwide. As a non-profit, it pursues innovation and champions safety, sustainability and equality across sport and mobility. Founded in 1904, it operates from offices in Paris, London, Geneva and Valleiry and coordinates a network of member organisations spanning five continents, representing millions of road users, motorsport professionals and volunteers; it develops and enforces regulations for motor sport, including seven FIA World Championships, to ensure safe and fair global competition. In 2026 it announced a collaboration with Greater Than to develop the FIA Driver Safety Index, a framework to standardize driver risk language.
