Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation is a nonprofit organization that matches people who are blind with German Shepherd guide dogs, aiming to increase independence and everyday safety for clients. The foundation breeds, trains, and places German Shepherd guide dogs across North America, with more than 1,450 dogs placed since 1981. All guide dogs are provided to clients at no cost, funded through donor generosity, and Fidelco trains clients in the communities where they live and work. Headquartered in Bloomfield, Connecticut, with operations in Wilton, Fidelco operates as an internationally accredited guide dog organization. Its programs serve people who are blind or visually impaired, and the foundation has placed dogs with law enforcement, first responders, search and rescue, and missing-child recovery organizations to support public safety. Fidelco provides 24/7 client support for the working life of its dogs, typically about ten years, and in December 2023 appointed Dr. Arnold Goldman as consulting veterinarian.
