Film Fest Gent, based in Gent, Flanders, Belgium, began as a student festival in 1974 and has evolved into a prominent European competitive film event. It is held annually in October and presents around 100 feature films and 30 shorts from across the world to audiences totaling over 125,000. The festival places a central focus on music in cinema, with its official competition dedicated to 'The Impact of Music on Film' since 1985, alongside programs such as Out of the Box, Eye Tunes, Global Cinema, and Belgian Cinema Today. In 2001 it established the World Soundtrack Academy, a non-profit structure that promotes film music through concerts, seminars, and recording projects, with the World Soundtrack Awards recognizing achievements in scoring for motion pictures. The organization maintains active industry partnerships, including a collaboration with Mutant announced in 2026.
