Firelight Media was founded by Stanley Nelson and Marcia Smith  in 1998 as an independent production company and is best known for producing high-quality powerful productions for PBS. From award-winning films like “Freedom Riders,” "The Murder of Emmett Till,” "Jonestown," and "Freedom Summer," Firelight is engaged in telling stories about pivotal events, movements, and people in American history. Through our films, community engagement campaigns, and our flagship mentoring program, Producers’ Lab, Firelight is dedicated to harnessing the power of story-driven media as tools for education and action.
