Five Valleys Land Trust is an environmental land conservation organization based in Missoula, Montana, focused on safeguarding Western Montana's natural heritage, including river corridors, wildlife habitat, agricultural lands, and community open spaces. It works with private landowners, community organizations, and Tribal and governmental agencies to protect and steward lands of high ecological, agricultural, and community value while expanding public access to open spaces and trails. It addresses challenges such as habitat fragmentation, conversion of open lands for development, a changing climate, degradation of waterways, and a disconnect between people and the land. It is among the oldest land trusts in the Rocky Mountain West, accredited since 2008, and has conserved nearly 100,000 acres since its establishment in 1972. In 2022, Five Valleys marked its 50th anniversary. A notable recent development is its collaboration with the University of Montana's Bird Ecology Lab to operate a bird banding station at the Confluence for a seventh year, supporting science, community engagement, and education.
