The Florida Auditor General, based in Tallahassee, Florida, functions as the state's independent external auditor within the accounting field. It provides unbiased, timely information to the Legislature, Florida's citizens, public entity management, and other stakeholders to promote accountability and improve government operations, conducting financial and performance audits for public colleges and universities, all 67 district school boards, all state agencies, and other audits as directed by the Legislature. As of October 31, 2020, the professional staff included CPAs, CISAs, and CFEs located in 15 offices across the state. The office maintains a statewide footprint to support its audit program and public accountability efforts. In June 2025, the City of North Miami Beach partnered with the Florida Auditor General, with backing from an independent CPA firm and State Senator Jason Pizzo, to review four years of purchase card transactions.
