The Florida Department of Corrections is Florida's largest state agency and runs the third-largest state prison system in the United States, with a budget of about $3.4 billion. It employs more than 24,000 staff and oversees roughly 80,000 inmates, along with nearly 146,000 offenders under active community supervision. The department aims to maintain a safe, professional environment for those in its care and to reduce victimization while supporting safer communities.
The agency is headquartered in Tallahassee, Florida. In 2022, the Florida Department of Management Services selected KPMG to develop a 20-year master plan for the Florida Department of Corrections.
