The Florida Education Practices Commission is an autonomous, quasi-judicial body responsible for state-level action in educator discipline cases whose membership and organization are established in section 1012.79, Florida Statutes. The Commission also hears violations of Final Orders, reviews and updates its rules and manages other responsibilities that help protect the professional integrity of Florida educators. The Commission’s Business Office schedules, notices and publishes open hearings and meetings; issues final orders and permanently archives its records; trains and schedules 30 volunteer commission members from around the State who make disciplinary decisions based on the record, mitigating and aggravating factors and established guidelines; administratively suspends and reinstates educators due to non-payment of child support; processes certificate surrenders; forwards disputed cases to the Division of Administrative Hearings; files records on appeal and determines indigent status as the lower tribunal.
