Florida Sterling Council is a public/private not-for-profit corporation operating in the business consulting and services field. Established in 1992 and based in Tallahassee, Florida, it is supported by the Executive Office of the Governor and includes members from both public and private sectors. An Executive Committee directs the council's activities, overseeing the Governor's Sterling Award for Performance Excellence and all Sterling process work. The organization also hosts the annual Sterling conference as part of its program governance. Its work targets public and private sector organizations seeking performance improvement and formal recognition through the Sterling program and related activities. In June 2020, the council announced the Apex Applicant software, part of a pilot effort with Stratex Solutions to test an innovative approach.
