Forced Entertainment is a Sheffield-based theatre company founded in 1984. It tours and presents provocative performances across the UK, mainland Europe, North America, Japan, Australia and beyond, maintaining a long-standing collaborative practice. The company is led by artist and writer Tim Etchells and includes designer and performer Richard Lowdon along with performers Robin Arthur, Claire Marshall, Cathy Naden and Terry O’Connor, with contributions from guest artists over the years. Its work questions established conventions of genre and narrative, drawing on influences from dance, performance art, music culture, cabaret and stand-up, and it moves between intimate two-person pieces and large-scale productions. The ensemble has been recognised as a leading voice in contemporary theatre and was awarded the International Ibsen Award in 2016 for expanding the artistic possibilities of theatre.

Based in Sheffield, England, the company operates globally, engaging audiences across multiple regions. It maintains a small core team and collaborates with guest artists to extend its practice. In January 2022, Forced Entertainment partnered with Element Society to deliver a Not-So-Drama-Group for young people in Sheffield.
