The Forest Stewardship Council is a nonprofit organization focused on promoting sustainable forest management. It governs forestry standards and a chain-of-custody certification that span more than 150 million hectares of certified forests and support the use of a widely recognized mark for responsible forestry. The standards reflect an approach that balances environmental, social, and economic considerations to foster healthy forest ecosystems. FSC works with forest managers, smallholders, governments, NGOs, and businesses to safeguard forest ecosystems and the livelihoods of forest communities. The organization is based in Bonn, in the North Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany. In 2026 FSC International opened a new location in Maseru, Lesotho.
