Forestry and Land Scotland operates as an executive agency of the Scottish Government, responsible for managing the country’s national forests and land. It was established on 1 April 2019 following the devolution of forestry powers to the Scottish Parliament, and it builds on more than a century of work by the Forestry Commission. Based in Inverness, Scotland, the agency’s mandate is to steward these resources for the benefit of present and future generations. Its remit covers economically sustainable forestry, environmental conservation, and delivering benefits to people and nature. The national forests and land contribute about £1 million to the Scottish economy each day, support around 11,000 jobs, and absorb more than 3 million tonnes of CO2 annually. In addition, the organization supports tourism and expands access to green spaces, underpinned by more than 80 community projects with inclusive aims.
