As a joyful, vibrant and growing religious community, the Franciscan Sisters, Third Order Regular of Penance of the Sorrowful Mother was founded in 1988 in Steubenville, Ohio, and is dedicated to prayer and to the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. They carry out their mission to make known God’s merciful love among the poor, the elderly, youth, young adults on college campuses and at parishes and retreats where they seek to bring renewal of the fullness of Catholic life. The Sisters consider prayer to be the foundation of their consecrated and apostolic life. Their prayer life includes daily Mass, Eucharistic adoration, Liturgy of the Hours and devotions to the Rosary and to Divine Mercy. From their prayer, where communion with God is fostered, flows their apostolic zeal for ministry, and to share with others the merciful love of God and the good news of salvation in Christ Jesus.
