The Franklin Township Community School Corporation is located in the southeast portion of Indianapolis. The township encompasses forty square miles that was once a rural community but currently experiencing growth through new housing. The township schools have over 8600 students and made up of six K-5 elementary schools, two Grades 6-8 middle schools and a comprehensive four-year high school. Franklin Central High School has garnered national recognition for their academic success. The Washington Post has recognized Franklin Central as a Top Challenge School in both 2012 and 2013. This honor recognizes the challenging curriculum that prepares students for the rigors of college placing Franklin Central as one of the top 9% of all public and private schools in the United States. U.S. News and World Report and Newsweek magazines both recognized Franklin Central in their publications in May of 2013 as top high schools in the United States. The Indiana Department of Education awarded Franklin Central the prestigious 4 Star School Award.
