Fraunhofer FOKUS is a research institute within the Fraunhofer Society that specializes in information and communication technologies. It delivers applied research services to both industry and public administration, covering requirements analysis, feasibility studies, technology development, prototyping, and piloting.

Its work is organized into six units, including Digital Public Services, Future Applications and Media, Quality Engineering, Smart Mobility, Software-based Networks, and Collaborative Safety and Security, engaging in national, European, and international research programs as well as contract research. The institute relies on its world-class R&D infrastructure and an international network of experts across research, industry, administration, and politics to identify emerging market trends and form partnerships. Based in Berlin and led by Prof. Dr. Manfred Hauswirth, who holds the Open Distributed Systems chair at TU Berlin, FOKUS focuses on topics such as distributed systems, digital networking, software engineering and AI applications, simulation and data analysis, IT security, infrastructures and platforms, and quantum computing.
