FRIENDS of CAMP LITTLE NOTCH is an active membership-based organization established in 2009 to save Camp Little Notch after the Girl Scout Council decided to close the camp and sell the property in 2008. Upon learning of the impending sale, an energetic group of former campers and staff—who believed CLN could and should reopen—formed Friends of Camp Little Notch. We successfully conserved the property through a relationship with the Open Space Institute (OSI), then reopened camp in 2012 and eventually raised enough money to purchase the property from OSI in March 2015. The board of directors, staff, and advisers are comprised of individuals who have expertise and experience in organizational development, strategic planning, marketing, fundraising, youth program design, education, counseling, landscape architecture, public policy, and legislative advocacy. Friends of CLN is incorporated in New York State and is federally recognized as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization (as of 2010). Friends of CLN runs a flagship wilderness camp for girls (Camp Little Notch), hosts a variety of sponsored events and programs, and opens the property to rental groups throughout the spring and fall camping seasons. The mission of Friends of CLN is to provide opportunities for all people to practice living in harmony with nature, each other, and themselves.
