Friends of the Inyo is a small nonprofit focused on the ecological health and sustainable enjoyment of public lands east of the Sierra Nevada crest. It operates within the Environmental Services arena and works with lands managed by the National Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the National Park Service. Based in Bishop, California, the organization holds 501(c)(3) status to support its activities and serves the public land community by safeguarding ecological integrity while facilitating public access and use of these landscapes. In 2025, Friends of the Inyo continued its decade-long partnership with EcoFlight. It also runs public-facing programs such as the Owens Lake Bird Festival, which in 2025 was held as a live birding and exploration weekend in Lone Pine.
