Based in Stockton, California, Friends Outside is a nonprofit organization in the field of individual and family services. Founded in 1955, it helps families, children, and incarcerated individuals cope with the impact of arrest and confinement while pursuing new directions and a path forward. The organization draws on decades of experience working with adults and youth involved in the criminal justice system to address the unique needs of families affected by incarceration, under the oversight of a board of directors.
As a community-based nonprofit, its mission focuses on improving quality of life for those impacted by incarceration and supporting successful community reentry and family reunification. In 2016, Friends Outside partnered with Dark Heart Alchemy to direct proceeds from a holiday wellness pack toward goods for families with incarcerated parents.
