FTD Educação operates in the book and periodical publishing space with a focus on educational content in Brazil. Its origins lie in 1902, when the Marist Brothers who ran schools began developing teaching materials that became the earliest FTD book series. The name commemorates Frère Théophane Durand, who headed the Marist Congregation from 1883 to 1907. Based in Echaporã, São Paulo, the organization views education as more than publishing, seeking to foster exploration, choice, autonomy and civic participation through its work.

In February 2023, the company expanded its offerings with the launch of the FTD Metaverse platform. Over its more than a century in operation, FTD Educação has built a long-standing presence in Brazil's educational publishing landscape.
